The Thursday Three!

Published August 29, 2008 by isisimaginings

Sumosue over at doCrafts & her hubby Steve, celebrate 25 years of wedded bliss next Wednesday & this is the card I made for them. The Dufex topper was a freebie from Cardcraft Plus – I think! I’ve had it a while & remembered it yesterday. Naturally, it took me ages to find it – why is it things are never in the place you originally put them?! The topper is sufficiently detailed & bright so I didn’t want too much around it. It’s simple matting & layering of silver card & a piece of purple card. The hearts & the 25 are silver peel-offs & the beads on the silver string came from my Christmas stash. I added a few tiny adhesive gems to accentuate the bubbles from the champagne. Hopefully Sue & Steve will like it & have a great anniversary.
I made this card using the layout sketch designed by Clare Curd at doCrafts. Clare is one of the site’s designers & her work is beautiful. When I saw the centre panel of the sketch I thought of these images. They’re from a QVC kit, as is the coin. I decoupaged the two outside images & used little specks of glitter glue in gold & red here & there. Because the images are so subtly coloured I didn’t want the rest of the card to overpower them. I think they look well against the papers. I’m not entirely sure about the orange flower, I wanted something a little darker, but I’ve nothing suitable. I may try painting it in gold & see how it turns out.
Another doCrafts challenge! This time it’s the Tilda Magnolia Challenge & it’s the first time I’ve done it – thanks to Eisbaerin who sent me the images. The challenge was to use two Tildas, two colours & one flower.
I had the idea of one Tilda in the pool & the other sitting on the side. The backing paper is from DCWV & the spots are actually white, so I used 3D glaze pens in blue & pink on the dots. The sentiment is made with cerise pink, metallic peel-offs & the flower has pink & blue adhesive gems in the centre – disappointingly, they haven’t scanned well, but I’m so terrible at taking photos! And as we’re at the end of the ‘summer’ I’ll keep this card for next year – unless someone falls in love with it before then! 🙂
I haven’t purchased any Tilda stamps yet. There are so many available & I want them all, but I doubt the bank manager would be impressed if I were to buy them all! I’ll use the ones Eisbaerin sent me & maybe then buy myself one or two for Christmas! 🙂
Hope you like my new cards! Love & light to whoever reads this!

A Weekend of Challenges!

Published August 26, 2008 by isisimaginings
It’s interesting how, sometimes, you can make ten cards a day & then be unable to make one! This past weekend was a bank holiday & I thought I’d get lots of cards made; the end result was two! I kept waiting for the muse to strike, but she was obviously occupied elsewhere. Someone, (I can’t remember who), once said creativity is like a muscle – you have to keep it exercised. So the trick is to carry on & see what happens!

I made this card in response to a challenge on the doCrafts website; it’s an alphabet challenge & this week the letter is ‘D’. We also had to incorporate diamonds. I immediately remembered the diamond-patterned paper from DCWV that was in my stash & went from there. I’m sure there are lots of other things beginning with D, but all I could think of was Daisies, Dragonfly & Diamante gems! I tried to use only the colours that are in the backing paper for the diamond cut-outs & Tilda – I used 3D pens & gel pens to colour her. The dragonfly was sent to me by Sarita & I think it’s from K & Co. The dark rectangle on the bottom right-hand corner is actually a lovely piece of lilac Mirri card, unfortunately it didn’t scan well. That’s where the greeting will go when I decide what it will be!

Challenge cards are great for when you haven’t got a clue where to start & this is another one from doCrafts. Every week Loretta posts a new layout sketch, sometimes it’s easy, sometimes it’s not. This was not! 🙂 I love paisley paper so I decided that would be the starting point. I can’t remember the site I downloaded this from, but I have it in lots of different colours. The orange backing paper is adhesive vellum – very useful when you don’t want to use brads! Sarita sent me the length of orange ribbon & I like the contrast of it against the blue ribbon, I twisted it slightly to give some depth to the image. I coloured the Penny Black hedgehogs with watercolour pencils & they looked a little flat, so I used Anita’s 3D glaze on their prickles!
This card will be going to Geraldine, (; last week she sent me a HUGE parcel of embossed vellum, crocheted flowers, baby booties & rattles, and a wonderful selection of oriental papers, peel-offs & die-cut frames. She also sent me a beautiful bracelet of blue stones & a terrific card; I’ll post a picture of them later.

At the end of my first post I said I’d been asked to make a card for a baby boy. This is the result. Geraldine’s parcel arrived with perfect timing & as soon as I saw it I thought the beautiful rattle would be an ideal centrepiece. I found the insects via a search on Google images & everything else I had in my stash. The layout is another of Loretta’s sketch challenges. I used clear adhesive gems on the rattle & purple ones on the grasshopper. Thankfully, the person who requested the card likes it – what a relief!
I recently bought a rubber stamp of a hummingbird on eBay, I want to use it on my next card, so watch this space!

My First Post!

Published August 20, 2008 by isisimaginings
Here it is, the very first post on my very own blog. I thought I’d tell you about the most recent card I made. It was a friendship swap on the doCrafts website – .
Over the weekend I had no idea what I was going to make; I felt very abandoned by the muse of inspiration. 🙂 Following a suggestion from Sarita in California, I had a look a the Hero Arts blog & found this layout.
The paisley paper is from Capture the Magic, (I LOVE paisley patterns), the green paper is from an old QVC kit. Everything else, the buttons, brads, flowers, ribbon, is from my stash. I found the sentiment on a friendship quotes website.
The card on the HA blog used a patterned paper on the top, but I liked the green plain with just the two gold peel-offs at the corners.
This is a simple card, deciding what the embellishments were going to be was the hardest part, but at least it got the creative juices flowing again, albeit slowly!
I hope butterflyt, my August swap partner, likes it.

And this is the second card I made. Again the layout is from sketch on the Hero Arts blog, but this time I adapted it slightly. The original layout was landscape & the gems were actually on the ribbon. But I’m quite pleased with how this turned out.

I used the same paisley paper as above as backing paper, the purple paper on top of that is a sample from Crown Paints! I used an Anna Griffin stamp in gold on the tag & covered it with vellum. Coloured the peel-off flowers with a blue vellum writer. The small flowers are Papermania, the large paper ones from QVC. The ribbon & the gems are from my stash.

I made this card for Eisbaerin, another doCrafter. She sent a wonderful selection of Tilda images & swirls cut from her new Cuttlebug. Hope she likes it!

I’ve got some more doCrafts challenge cards to make & I’ve been asked to make a card for a new baby boy. The brief is sky blue, grass green & a grasshopper!! 🙂
