Sad News

Published November 30, 2008 by isisimaginings

I haven’t been in the mood to write my blog the last few days. On Thursday morning I had to have my cat put to sleep. It was a decision I didn’t want to make, but she had been having monthly treatment since January & it became obvious it wasn’t working. She was in so much pain on Thursday morning that she didn’t want me to touch her, which was totally out of character. I know I did the right thing, but I miss her so much. She’s been with me for eight years & this year especially I needed her. When I came home from the hospital after chemo & radiotherapy she would always cuddle up with me & when I lost my hair due to the chemo she would wrap herself around my head at night. This wasn’t always great when the hot flushes started, but I appreciated the thought! 🙂 She drove me crazy sometimes with her fussy eating habits, but she also made me laugh at the food she did like, such as pesto, egg salad & french fries, which she would drag off your plate if you weren’t careful! She was incredibly vocal & would sit at the top of the stairs yelling at me, getting louder & louder until I answered her. I miss her. The house is so empty without her; in bed at night, I keep thinking I hear her on the stairs. At the end, all I could do was tell her how much I loved her & I hope she heard me & understood.
When my mum was here in October she took some great photos of my girl & when I get them I will post them here.
I did make some cards at the start of the week, but I’ll post them later.
Love & light.

Who’s A Lucky Girl??

Published November 24, 2008 by isisimaginings

Me, me, I am!! 🙂 My first surprise was to win a gorgeous selection of blog candy from Clare Curd at docrafts. For the last few weeks she has been giving away lots of candy & I won the last lot. As I told her, I can count on the fingers of one hand the things I’ve won in my life & still have fingers left over! 🙂 I will take a photo of my goodies when they arrive & post it here. Clare designs gorgeous cards for docrafts & you can see her blog here.

My second surprise occurred when I had a look at my blog & discovered I have been given two more awards! This one is from Sharon & I am so thrilled to have been given it. I saw it recently on another blog & thought it was lovely. The sentiment behind this award is wonderful:

This blog invests & believes the PROXIMITY – nearness in space, time & relationships! These blogs are exceedingly charming. These kind bloggers ain to find, and be friends. They are not interested in prizes & self-aggrandisement. Our hope is that when the ribbons of these prizes are cut, even more friendships are propagated. Please give more attention to these writers. Deliver this award to eight bloggers who must choose eight more & include this cleverly written text into the body of their award.

How nice is that? Now, I have the difficult task of choosing eight people to pass this on to. The eight I have chosen are:

Eisbaeren, Emma, Barbara, Irene, Debs, Rica, Michelle, Marlene & Jak.

Thank you so much Sharon for this award!

My second award is from Irene – I love that pink, swirly background! Thank you for this Irene, I really appreciate you thinking of me. Now I have to give it to five others & I choose:

Joey, Kathleen, Tara, Sarita & Mel.

So, huge thanks again to Clare, Sharon & Irene for making me smile on this miserable, wet & cold Monday.

Love & light.

A Card, Snow & More Blog Candy

Published November 23, 2008 by isisimaginings

Brrrr, it’s cold!!! It snowed for about four hours this morning, then the rain arrived & washed it all away, but it’s still FREEZING!
Only one card today. I made this for two challenges at docrafts; Clare’s Weekly Sketch Challenge & the Tilda Challenge. For the Tilda challenge Tilda had to be in monochrome colours only, (apart from hair colour & skin tone), and then use one different colour for the embellishments. I like the vibrancy of the pink ribbon – the bow took me a long time to get right! I did consider heat embossing the black paper, but I think the plainness of it provides a good contrast against the patterned paper.
I found another terrific blog today. This time it’s Kristine’s blog. She has gorgeous cards on her blog & she is celebrating her blogaversary with not one, but two lots of delicious blog candy! She will be drawing the winners on November 26, so if you want to be in with a chance of winning post a link on your blog & leave a comment on her blog candy post.
Finally, I mentioned in my last post that I had made a Christmas gift for someone, but couldn’t reveal what it was. Well, Jen – who the gift is for – has been pestering me to tell her what it is. I won’t tell her, but she can have a hint. Which is………. you can’t eat it. And that’s my last word on the subject – for now……….. 🙂

Blog Candy Alert!

Published November 19, 2008 by isisimaginings

Sharon at Cards n Greetings is celebrating 5000 hits on her blog with a great selection of blog candy. She has also posted a pic of the gorgeous card she made for the November friendship swap at docrafts. Her blog is excellent, so pay it a visit if you can.

I made something very special today & it is my first attempt at this item. I can’t say what it is or post a photo of it, because it is a Christmas gift for someone who reads this blog! I will be seeing them in a few weeks & I will reveal the secret once they have it. It took me all day to make, but I’m quite pleased with how it turned out. Hopefully ……… will like it too! 🙂

Thank you to all those leaving comments here, it is much appreciated.

Grey Sunday

Published November 16, 2008 by isisimaginings

Today was one of those grey, wet, miserable days where all you want to do is curl up with the newspapers & the tv, so that’s what I did! I thought about making cards, but just couldn’t motivate myself. I also thought about clearing up the few thousand leaves that have covered the gardenin the last two weeks, but there only a few hundred left on the tree, so I’ll wait for them to fall then clear up the lot in one go.

I’ve updated my blog list with lots of lovely blogs. It’s not possible to pick favourites, but two I really like are Fran’s WOJ blog & the House Mouse challenge blog. These stamps are really lovely & yes, they are on my list of things I ‘need’! 🙂

These are the other cards I made earlier in the week. This one is for a little boy in Texas, called Tagen. He is recovering from very serious surgery & his aunt Michelle wondered if any of those who visit her blog would like to make him a card. When he is well enough to return to school he’s going to bring all his cards for a ‘Show & Tell’. Hopefully he will like this one. When you lift the ‘get well soon’ tag the two sides open & there is Winnie The Pooh! Sarita sent me the stripy papers on the outside & the inside papers are Papermania. Jen gave me the Tigger stickers & I photocopied Winnie from the packaging & coloured him with Whispers pens, then covered him with Anita’s 3D glaze. BTW, as well as making gorgeous cards, Michelle & her hubby raise miniature donkeys, who are SO cute! The latest one, Fernando, was born last weekend – he is adorable! She has photos & video on her blog, so take a look.

Two more very simple cards. Sarita sent me the lovely stickers & I used one of Loretta’s docrafts layouts. The backing paper is adhesive vellum with Papaermania paper matted & layered on top. Eisbaerin very kindly sent me the diecut swirls a while ago & I thought they would add a finishing touch to these cards. I used a little glitter glue on the pink flower & a black adhesive gem on the hummingbird’s eye.

That’s it from me for tonight. Thanks for looking. Love & light.

Some New Cards

Published November 15, 2008 by isisimaginings

At last! I made this for the November Friendship Swap at Docrafts & used one of Loretta’s challenge layouts, with a slight alteration. The ‘friend’ stamped image should have been a square on the lower right hand corner under the blossom image, but it didn’t fit. The patterned paper underneath is from a sheet of giftwrap from Tesco! When I saw it I thought it matched the blossom image quite well. It doesn’t show, but I used Anita’s 3D glaze on the flowers after colouring them with a white Sakura gel pen. I thought they would be whiter than they appear; I stamped the image with a Versafine ink pad on to watercolour paper, so next time I will try white cardstock instead.
These cards were made using Loretta’s layouts also – I’m about six weeks behind! I tried to keep them very simple, with just a few colours. The backing paper is patterned vellum that Geraldine was kind enough to send me. She also sent me the candle & poinsettia stamps – they are Anita’s clear stamps & the pack includes a reindeer & snowmen, among others. The ribbon on the Tilda card is from the free gift that came with the current edition of the docrafts Creativity magazine.

While my mum was here in October we spent a lot of time browsing the online craft stores. She has been making large decoupage pictures for about 10 years now & has recently started making cards. I can’t remember now where we got these orchid decoupage sheets from, but we both loved them – she bought quite a few, I only bought one! I made these yesterday & again tried to keep them simple, as I wanted the emphasis to be the flowers. The pink card is for my mum, because she did a lot for me while she was here, including painting the kitchen & the bathroom! I don’t do a lot of decoupage, but I would like to do more of these, so I’ll have to find the invoice that came with them & buy more.

I made a few more cards this week, but I’ll upload them tomorrow. I also have to update my blog list; there are so many fantastic blogs out there & some of them have blog candy! 🙂 I have more Christmas cards to make & also two more thank you cards, but tomorrow is another day, as Scarlett O’Hara said. Tonight I’m going to watch ‘Happy-Go-Lucky’ on DVD. It’s a film by the great British director Mike Leigh. My favourite of all the movies he’s made is ‘Secrets & Lies’ from 1996. If you haven’t seen it I can highly recommend it.

So, until tomorrow, love & light to all.

The Butterfly Project

Published November 12, 2008 by isisimaginings

The Holocaust Museum in Houston, Texas, USA is planning a major exhibition in 2012, to commemorate the 1.5 million children who died during the Holocast. The exhibition will take the form of 1.5 million butterflies – one for each child that died needlessly. The museum is asking for help from all us crafters, cardmakers & scrapbookers; they want us to make butterflies & send them to the museum. The only rules are that there must be NO glitter & the butterflies should be no bigger than 8″ x 10″. You can draw your own butterfly shapes or Dan has posted two templates that you can download, print & decorate any way you want. Please feel free to spread the word about this project & copy the link to your blogs. More information can be obtained from the museum via this link:

I hope to be back tomorrow with some new cards.

Love & light to all who read this.

Can It Be True?!

Published November 5, 2008 by isisimaginings
That my last post was the end of September?! Where has the time gone? Apparently, it’s only 50 days to Christmas……….AAARRGGHH!! 🙂 I’d love to be able to say that my life has been non-stop excitement since September, but sadly, I can’t. Instead I ‘ve had hospital appointments & my mom was here from Ireland for a few weeks. I haven’t had time to make any cards & I seem to have lost my mojo too. I’m surrounded by crafting goodies & there are lots of challenges at docrafts, but I can’t get inspired. I made these cards a while ago for my sister & my niece, their birthdays were in October so I didn’t want to post them here until they had seen them.

I bought this image in Summer 2007 for my sister’s birthday card. After I decoupaged it I couldn’t think what to do with it & it stayed in my stash until this summer when Loretta at docrafts posted one of her weekly LO challenges. The backing paper is from Capture The Magic & I attached a piece of vellum to it with brads. They don’t show clearly in the picture, but I put some tiny adhesive gems on to the flowers on her hat & a little glitter glue on her bodice. The card my sister got is actually slightly different to this one. My mom said she would take it home with her so I put it on the couch & went to get a pen, when I came back the cat had chewed off one of the flowers!! I’m surprised my scream wasn’t heard in Blog Land! 🙂 I’m always leaving crafting stuff on the couch & the cat has NEVER done anything like that before. Luckily I have quite a few, (ahem), flowers in my stash, so I was able to repair the damage.

I knew I wanted to use this Penny Black stamp, (it’s called ‘Cinnamon’), for my niece’s card, but I couldn’t think of what colours I wanted to use on the card. Then I remembered the dress she wore to a party in the summer -black with a cerise pink sash. The backing paper is from a sheet of giftwrap & I heat embossed a piece of black card. The image was coloured with Whispers pens & then I used Anita’s 3D glaze.

My friend Jen asked me to make a card for one of her volunteers at The Grand, the movie theatre where she works. Maggies loves cats, but instead of a traditional card I decided on this Egyptian one. I decoupaged the cat & used glitter glue – red & blue – & some red adhesive stones. On the inside of the card is a cartouche with Maggie’s name stamped in hieroglyphics. Maggie liked her card, (ooh, the relief!), & sent me a lovely e-card from Jacquie Lawson as a thank you.
I hadn’t made an oriental card in a while, so when Geraldine sent me an enormous parcel of papers, stamps & toppers I made this one as a thank you to her. The LO is another of Loretta’s challenges – how she thinks up a different one week after week I do not know! The fabric flowers are from Papermania & everything else is from a QVC kit. I scanned the card before I added a gold ‘thank you’ peel-off above the image. Hope Geraldine liked it!
This is another of Loretta’s layouts. I found the

cherry blossom stamp on Ebay & thought it was beautiful. I stamped it onto cream cardstock & coloured it with Whispers pens – I used a Whispers blending pen for the first time & managed to do a little shading! I have a major addiction to ribbons & I love the effect of the pink ribbon on the brown.

I have some more pics of cards that I made before October got in the way, but I’ll post them tomorrow hopefully. I also want to update my list of crafting blogs – there are some very creative crafters out there! I need a rest now because I’ve been up all night watching the US election results. I have followed the election since the primaries & found it extremely interesting & I have to say I’m delighted with the result. Go Obama, go!!!
Love & light to all who read this.
