Creative Chemistry 101…..Day 7

Published March 31, 2012 by isisimaginings

A very good Saturday to one & all.  Very grey & chilly here, quite a change from the last few days.  Still, it’s definitely Spring.

Today, I’d like to show you two of the tags I made for day 7 of Tim’s online class at www.onlinecraftclasses.com  The live classes are now over, but you can still sign up, as there is lifetime access to them.  Before I continue, I should mention that I don’t have anything to show you for days 4 & 6.  These lessons were on reinkers & Distress markers, neither of which I have at the moment.

Day 7 was all about embossing & like the other days, it was very interesting.  Possibly, the most important thing I learnt was that Versamark ink is NOT suitable to use with Distress embossing powders.  I’ve always used Versamark & gave up using Distress EPs, because I wasn’t getting the end result.  Now I know why.  I was so pleased with the embossing on this birdcage tag & you can expect to see Distress EPs on lots of projects from now on.

Tim also showed us embossing over Distress ink.  This was another technique I hadn’t had much success with, I think because I wasn’t putting enough ink on my stamp.  This time it worked.  Possibly, this stamp is a little too detailed, but in RL the embossing looks pretty good.

That’s it for today, I have to assist at an eight-year-old’s birthday party this afternoon.  She chose to make pizzas at a local pizzeria, so it should be interesting. Smile  I will be doing a second post tonight, as I want to enter a few challenges that are ending tomorrow.

F is for………..

Published March 29, 2012 by isisimaginings
Here is my second of the three tags for March,
in the Chocolate Baroque Alpha Tag Swap.   I said yesterday that I couldn’t come up with any ideas & the situation was getting desperate a week after I had finished the ‘E’ tag.  After staring at my CB stamps for about ten years 🙂 I decided to start colouring the tree & flowers image with Promarkers, in the hope that an idea would spark. A few hours later, I had a finished tag.
F is for “Forest Flowers”
Supplies:
Stamps – Elusive Images Patchwork Butterfly, Chocolate Baroque Texture Fragments, Hero Arts
Distress inks – Broken China, Stormy Sky, Peeled Paint, Crushed Olive, Vintage Photo
Clear Rock Candy Crackle Paint
Promarkers
Flowers – Prima & Papermania
Brads & gems from my stash
Something else I said yesterday was that I was trying not to add many embellishments & here is a tag with a LOT of flowers on it, but they go with the theme.
Thank you for looking.  Until next time,
Love & light

E is for……….

Published March 28, 2012 by isisimaginings
Good Wednesday morning blog visitors, here we are at the middle of the week already, thanks for stopping by.
I’m taking a break from my ‘homework’ for Professor Holtz to show my first tag for this month’s Chocolate Baroque Alpha Tag Swap.  We had to make three tags this time round & it was STRESSFUL.  I’ve no idea why, the ideas just weren’t there.
Anyway, E is for Easter & Embossing.
Supplies:
Manilla tag, size 8
Chocolate Baroque stamps
Stampbord
Distress inks – Mustard Seed, Scattered Straw, Peeled Paint, Crushed Olive
Sizzix Embossing Folder – Stylized Flowers
Versamark, Clear Embossing Powder, Promarkers, Memento ‘London Fog’ ink
The first thing I did was to stamp a flourish onto the tag with Versamark & then left the ink to dry.  I stamped the flowers with DIs & then blended the same colours over the entire tag.  After embossing with the Stylized Flowers folder, I used a Versamark pen to ink over areas of the flowers, applied clear EP & heat set.  The butterfly was stamped on to scrap card with London Fog Memento ink, coloured with Promarkers & cut out.
I am purposefully trying to keep these tags simple, by not adding too many embellishments & instead focusing on techniques.  It’s a good challenge for me.
I hope to return tomorrow with my ‘F’ tag.  Until then,
Love & light

Creative Chemistry 101……..Day 3

Published March 27, 2012 by isisimaginings

Happy Tuesday blog visitors, I hope the day is treating you well.  I’ve got four more tags to show you today, the results of my “homework” for Tim Holtz’ Creative Chemistry 101 at Online Card Classes.   This class was all about alcohol inks & Archival inks.

Alcohol inks with Gold mixative & blending solution
Alcohol inks with Silver Mixative & blending solution
One of the techniques Tim demonstrated was using the Archival inks as a resist under Distress inks.  I don’t presently have any Archival inks, but I do have a selection of Brilliance inks & I wondered if they would have the same result & indeed they do, as you can see in the two pics below.

One of the nice things about these classes is that I’m getting a chance to play.  Instead of choosing certain colours, I’m just grabbing what comes to hand, especially with the alcohol inks, which I rarely use.  The results are certainly interesting & I will use them more often now.
The tag below was an experiment.  Tim had said that the resist technique wouldn’t work very well on a manilla tag, so I wanted to see what the effect would be & I must say, I like it.  The photo doesn’t show the background very well, but I think you can see the stamped images underneath the DI.  The birdman was from an alcohol inked tag that went wrong earlier, so I decided to cut it out & use it as the focal point on this tag.
Stamps used on these tags: Tim Holtz, PaperArtsy, Artistic Stamper, 7 Gypsies
Thank you for looking.  Until next time,

Creative Chemistry 101…….Day 2

Published March 26, 2012 by isisimaginings

Happy Monday blog visitors, thanks for stopping by.  Today, I have four tags to show you.  Over at Online Card Classes, the Duke of Distress is doing a two week class.   Every day there are videos where Tim explains & demonstrates all the inky & painty things in his & the Ranger product line; Distress inks, Archival inks, Distress stains & markers, etc.  You can still sign up, click on the link above for all the info.  Day two was focused on Distress inks & Tim demoed various techniques, including blending, watercolouring & his renowned spritz & flick.

12 Tags of 2012………March

Published March 25, 2012 by isisimaginings
Good Sunday evening blog visitors,  I hope your day has been enjoyable.  The clocks went forward an hour last night, which means longer days, but also means an hour less sleep & and that always takes me a few days to get used to.  Right now, I’m feeling slightly zombieish. 🙂
Today’s project is my take on Sir Tim of Holtz’ tag for March.  You can see his tag & all the details HERE.  I don’t have the items Tim used, but  did want to use his products as much as possible.
Ingredients:
Kraft card tag, size 8
Woodgrain texture fade
Distress inks – Gathered Twigs, Brushed Corduroy, Vintage Photo
Distress embossing powder – Weathered Wood
Perfect Pearls mist – Heirloom Gold
Caged Bird & Tattered Pinecone dies
Visual Artistry stamp
Foliage embellishments
Scraps of Kaisercraft ‘Bonjour’ papers
Look at this, I love how the PP mist dried on the metal Foliage pieces.  And swiping Gathered Twigs DI over the embossed surface really shows off the woodgrain effect.
So here’s the completed tag.  I attached the bird with silicon glue just above his legs, so that he wasn’t lying flat. Thanks for looking,  I hope you like it.
Until next time,
Love & light

"Lucy In The Sky………."

Published March 24, 2012 by isisimaginings
My poor blog, forgive me for neglecting you.  I’ve not been feeling great the last few weeks, worn out from the constant pain in my back, along with assorted other things.  I tried writing a blog post a few times, but gave up as my brain seemed incapable of functioning.  Anyway, on to today’s project.
I made this canvas a few weeks ago.  I intended taking part in Hels‘ Sunday Stamper challenge at the time, which was ‘Diamonds’, but that didn’t happen.  Then I thought I would enter it in last week’s Simon Says Stamp challenge, which was ‘Anything’ & that didn’t happen.  So, here it is.
Plasticine porters with looking glass ties
When Hels gives a theme, she always chooses a song to go along with it & she chose ‘Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds’.  Naturally, I couldn’t resist.  I’ve loved The Beatles’ music for as long as I can remember & LSD is so full of imagery, you really can’t go wrong.  I wanted to include a number of images from the song & I wanted to go quite big, so I chose a 20x20cm canvas instead of a card to work on.
Cellophane flowers of yellow & green, towering over your head
Supplies:
Stamps: Tim Holtz, La Blanche, PaperArtsy, 7 Gypsies, Chocolate Baroque, Kanban
Distress inks: Stormy Sky, Broken China, Chipped Sapphire, Brushed Olive, Peeled Paint, Mustard Seed, Ripe Persimmon, Vintage Photo
Mod Podge, Promarkers, Card Candi, Acetate, Scalloped Circle Nestabilities, Adhesive gems & pearls, Stars
Newspaper taxis appear on the shore
So there it is.  I think it has a childlike quality, which I like, as “Lucy…..” is probably one of the first songs I learnt as a child.  What do you think?
Thank you for visiting, have a great weekend.  Until then,
Love & light
