The Final Assimilation

Published October 31, 2012 by isisimaginings

Happy Halloween, blog visitors, I hope you’re having a spookylicious day.

This is the second card that I mentioned in my last post & yes, it features the final appearance of the Borg Raven.  For now……

Halloween Bday 1 Bground

This time, I remembered to take a photo of the background.   As before, lots of layering of Dylusions sprays.  I find that, by putting the inks onto craft sheet & swiping the paper through the them – drying after each swipe –  I can build up layers quite effectively.  When I was happy with the base layers, I sprayed Crushed Grape on the craft sheet & spread it around before gently placing the paper on top.  I did that a few times, again drying with my heat tool each time.  I did the same thing on the bottom half of the paper with the Fresh Lime & Cut Grass inks.

The final addition the to he background was to splat Antiqued Bronze Distress stain in places.  LOVE how that turned out!

Halloween Bday 1 c

The tombstones also turned out better than I expected.  The ‘RIP’ was cut from a TH alphabet die & the embossing powder on it is the powder I had left over when I made THIS card.  It’s a combination of all sorts of colours  & I liked it so much I had to keep it.

The second tombstone was a complete accident.  I started with a mixture of black & a rust coloured EP & just kept adding powder & heat setting.  Suddenly, patches of white started to appear, probably because of overheating, but it looked so cool & went with the Halloween theme so well, that I couldn’t complain.

Halloween 1 b

And here he is, the Borg Raven.  As you can see, he has been completely assimilated by the Borg & is terrifying the poor cat, who was in the wrong place, at the wrong time.

I used Sir Tim’s Riveted Patchwork technique, which you will find on page 57 of A Compendium of Curiosities, volume II, or on his blog HERE.

Halloween 1

Here is the finished card.  I used the bunting stamp from Dylusions ‘Further Around The Edge stamp set for the grass.  I can’t remember where the ‘Happy Halloween’ stamp came from, I’ve lost the packaging – maybe Inkadinkadoo?  I think the witch stamp might be from Stampendous, but there’s no name on it.

I really enjoyed making these Halloween cards & next year, I WILL start my Halloween projects a lot earlier.

That’s it from me for now, thank you for stopping by.  Until next time,

Mindful Writing and Small Stones

Published October 31, 2012 by isisimaginings

Good morning, my crafting post will be later today, but I want to share this post from Fiona Robyn of Writing Our Way Home with you:

“This Thursday the 1st of November is the first ever Mindful Writing Day, organised by Kaspa & Fiona at Writing Our Way Home.

To join in simply slow down, pay attention to one thing and write it down (making a small stone). Read all about it here.

small stones are easy to write, and they will help you connect to the world. Once you’ve started, you might not want to stop… You can read more about small stones and find out about Lorrie with pea-green eyes in Fiona’s free ebook, Write Your Way Home.

If you visit Writing Our Way Home on Thursday you’ll find out how to download your free kindle copy of the new anthology, ‘A Blackbird Sings: a book of short poems‘.

You can also submit your small stone and see it published on the blog, and be entered into a competition to win one of five paperback copies of the book.

There’s a Facebook invite here if you’d like to invite your friends, and feel free to repost this blog on your own blog. You can tweet this:

Connect with the world through mindful writing – join the first Mindful Writing Day on the 1st of November: #smallstone

See you on the 1st!”

I’m not always successful at writing a small stone, but I shall be taking part tomorrow.  Why not join in?

Scaredy Cat

Published October 30, 2012 by isisimaginings

Hello!  As it’s the eve of Halloween & I didn’t get time to make my own Halloween projects, I thought I’d show you one of two cards I was asked to make for a friend in the USA.

Halloween 2 a

Unfortunately, I forgot to take photos of the background for this one & these photos are rubbish, apologies.  The background is layers of Dylusions & then a brick wall stencil on top.  Most of that ended up being covered up, but you can see a little of it above, I stamped the spiders on top.

I die cut the Tim Holtz Alterations cat from black Core’dinations, dry embossed it & then used a glitter pen around the edges of the raised areas.

Halloween 2 b

The Chocolate Baroque windows were stamped onto another Dylusions background & I covered the ‘glass’ with Glossy Accents.  The Sizzix bats were cut from the scraps of paper that were left over after cutting out the windows.

I stamped & heat embossed with white EP the spider webs around the edge of the black card, you can just see it above.

Halloween 2

That’s it for tonight, I’ll show you the other card tomorrow.  Thanks so much for visiting my blog & for taking the time to leave a comment.

Chocolate Baroque Tag Swap S and T

Published October 28, 2012 by isisimaginings

Hello lovelies, I hope you’ve had a lovely weekend.  Madam Mojo left me for someone else, which meant I didn’t get any of the projects on my list made, so I thought I’d show you two more of my tags for the CB swap.

CB Swap S

S for Spooky.

CB Tag Swap Sept 12 Sa

I’m still loving this embossing powder technique, I plan using it on some Christmas cards.

CB Swap T

T for Thoughts of Tomorrow.

CB Tag Swap Sept 12 Ta

The tag started off with lots of texture from gesso & paint, but then I didn’t know what to do next.  I ended up going for an Autumn theme & cutting some leaves from Glassine paper, using a PaperArtsy die & colouring them & the CB stamp with distress inks.

Ok, it’s been a long day & I am off to bed.  Thanks for visiting.  Until next time,

Birthday Dylusions

Published October 24, 2012 by isisimaginings

Greetings blog visitors, how’s your Wednesday been?  Mine could have done with an extra few hours.

Tonight, I’d like to show you two cards that I made with Dylusions sprays, stencils & stamps.

Dan Mum

This was a commissioned card & it began at 4 a.m one morning, when I wondered what Curious Corrin would look like with a dress from a set of Kanban steampunk stamps.  There was only thing to do & I’m pretty pleased with how she turned out. Just don’t look too closely at her ‘arms’, I made them myself & it’s a good thing they’re mostly hidden.

While making these cards, I completely forgot to take photos of the background, but I kept them quite simple & coloured the images with Promarkers.

Dan Mum b

This card was for my niece, who turned 17 last week.  This was one of my usual cards, where I had no idea what I was going to do & just starting spraying inks & stamping.  I gave Dependable Dotty a different head & a crown.

My niece has a cat, which is why I added one to the card, the stamp was a freebie ages ago from Craft Stamper magazine.  The chicken wire stamp on the background is from The Artistic Stamper.

That’s it for tonight, thank you for stopping by.  Until next time,

The Borg Raven, After The Battle

Published October 22, 2012 by isisimaginings

Evening all, happy Monday to you, hope you had a great weekend.

I’d like to show you another Hallowe’en card tonight.  This is the first year I’ve been asked to make so many Hallowe’en cards.  It’s very flattering, but also means I haven’t had time to make my own projects.  I might get a chance to make something between now & next week.

I chose a stepper card blank & made a background by spritzing Dylusions sprays on to my craft sheet & dragging the card stock through the sprays, drying each time.

I spread the final colour over the craft sheet & tapped the card stock into it & cut the pieces to size after drying.

2012-10-02 002 2012-10-02 004

We’ve reached the time of the year when the light is terrible, so this next photo looks nothing like the finished piece.  It’s a piece of black Core’dinations that I covered with metallic Distress stains, heat embossed the web with silver EP & dry embossed with the TH Bark folder.

2012-10-02 002 2012-10-02 005

I die cut the moon from the same, Dylusioned background, added a little Orange Sunshine Adirondack ink & covered with Glossy Accents.  I love how the Dylusions colours reacted with the GA.

Halloween Birthday a

The raven is well on his way to being assimilated by the Borg.

Halloween Birthday d

It took me a while to figure out what I was going to add to the steps, but once I remembered the TH row of houses die, I finished the card quite quickly.  I put some silver mirri card behind the houses, to give the illusion of lights in the windows.

Some additional stamping & the bats here & there & I was finished.

Halloween Birthday

Thanks for looking today & a HUGE thank you for the very kind comments you’ve been leaving.  Until next time,

The Borg Raven….The Beginning

Published October 17, 2012 by isisimaginings

Evening all, hope your Wednesday has been excellent.  It’s raining so hard here, I can hardly hear myself type.

I’d like to show you a card that I made last month, the recipient’s birthday was only last weekend, so I’ve held onto it until now.

Justin 2012

This background is my take on a technique by Glenda Waterworth in the October issue of Craft Stamper magazine.  It involved a stencil & LOTS of embossing powder.  Very messy, but good fun & I love the finished result.

Justin 2012 b

This is the raven before his encounter with the Borg.  Bless him, he was minding his own business, just shouting at the bats, when his life changed forever.

Here’s a close up of the background with the Sizzix die cut bats.

I’m off to bed, it’s been a long day.  Thanks for looking, until next time,

The Bat Queen

Published October 15, 2012 by isisimaginings

Happy Monday to everyone.

A quickie post to start the week.  These are the ATCs I made to swap with Denise of BirdNuts Mixed Media blog.  The theme was Halloween & I used stamps from Dylusions ‘Curious Corrin’ & Chocolate Baroque’s ‘Boo!’ set.  The bats are from a Sizzix die.

The Bat Queen

I made a very simple background with Dylusions sprays & added some faux stitching & textured paper.

Kingdom of the Bat Queen

I stamped the ruins onto a piece of background scrap, cut out the moon & covered it with Glossy Accents.

Short & sweet tonight, thanks for looking.  Until next time,

Love & light.

Yours Artfully Class

Published October 11, 2012 by isisimaginings

My intention was to write this post on Monday, but you know what they say about the best laid plans…..

I had a wonderful time at Lin’s Framed Triptych class at the Bead Scene Studio in Pottersbury, (near Milton Keynes), on Sunday.  It was a project I wanted to attempt the moment I saw Lin’s frame at the Craft Barn Extravaganza Day, back in July.

2012-10-07 001 2012-10-07 009

The Bead Scene is a lovely venue, surrounded by countryside & with lots of chickens & cockerels running around.  This one was especially vocal.

2012-10-07 001 2012-10-07 002

The class was a perfect opportunity to play with the Fresco Finish paints by PaperArtsy.  They are wonderful; a great selection of colours, some opaque, some translucent & they blend together beautifully.

2012-10-07 001 2012-10-07 003

I tried to create a stonewashed effect.  I loved that you can add layers of the FF paint the effect you want.

2012-10-08 001 2012-10-08 002

Lots of stamping & embossing, then it was time to add the embellishments & focal image – which is THIS stamp.

2012-10-11 001 2012-10-11 005

We used Fresco Finish paints to give the metal embellishments a rusty effect & then added tiny amounts of Treasure Gold.  I completely LOVED doing this.  I’ve added some of my own pieces & used the same techniques & it is VERY cool when you see the result.  By the way, Treasure Gold comes in fifteen gorgeous colours & once you have one, you’ll want them all.

2012-10-11 001 2012-10-11 006

And here is my finished frame.  I am very proud of it.

2012-10-11 001 2012-10-11 003

A big thank you to Lin for such a great class & for her excellent chauffeuring duties as well.

Thanks as well to Stephanie for her warm welcome & keeping us supplied with tea & coffee.

Thanks for looking, until next time,

Love & light.
