Two Quick Cards

Published September 30, 2013 by isisimaginings

Two posts in one night, I’m excelling myself!  The journal page is not finished, but the two cards are, so I thought I’d post them straight away.

Last night I watched a programme on BBC4 about the history of wallpaper, called ‘Fabric of Britain’ & this card was inspired by a wallpaper that was briefly shown.

*Edited to add; the programme can be found on the BBC iPlayer here;

I painted a piece of linen textured card with a mix of Ice Blue & Inky Pool frescos & added the black lines with PITT pens.  The poppy die cut is a Memory Box die.

The background on this card is a chevron stamp from The Artistic Stamper, stamped with Picked Raspberry distress ink, which I also blended on top.  I cut the cloud out of a piece of linen textured card with these dies from Joy Crafts.  I stamped the chevron below with Peacock Feathers distress ink & the feathers are a Die-namics die.

That’s it, I love that these cards took only minutes to make.  And now I’m going to bed, goodnight!

Thank You Cards

Published September 30, 2013 by isisimaginings

Happy Monday blog visitors.  I made these cards a few weeks ago to send to Wendy Vecchi & Carol Quance to say thank you for my recent wins of Wendy’s stencils & the set of Lin Brown stamps on Carol’s blog.

For Wendy’s card I made a simple background with distress inks, then used her Archival inks –  Geranium, Orange Blossom, Fern Green & Potting Soil – through her layered tree stencil & for the stamping of the grass & falling leaves – they’re Martha Stewart stamps.  The Tim Holtz bird stamp & the Memory Box die cut birds completed the card.

I used a piece of canvas from an A4 pad as my substrate for Carol’s card.  I painted it with Nougat fresco paint, stamped the crackle with Chocolate Pudding (I think, could have been Mocha Mousse) then stamped the leaves with a mix of Tinned Peas & Hey Pesto.  Following Lin’s instructions, I stamped the flowers & leaves onto black card, leaving a border when I cut them out & stamping a PaperArtsy script stamp on the flowers.  I added dots of white liquid pearls to the centres.  I can’t remember exactly what fresco paints I used on the flowers.  I think it was Nougat, Ice Blue & a tiny amount of Inky Pool.

That’s it, I’m delighted to say that Carol liked her card & I hope Wendy did too.  I’m working on a journal page & a couple of cards right now, so I might be back later……

There Are No Mistakes

Published September 29, 2013 by isisimaginings

Evening, hope everyone’s had a good day.  Many thanks for the kind comments on my blog post this morning, I’m thrilled to say that I’ve won a set of PaperArtsy stamps.  Yay!!  I’ve got various projects that I’ve finished recently so I’m going to try to post them here in the next few days.

Already with my art journaling I’ve found myself worrying about getting a page looking right, which is not what I wanted.  It’s supposed to be a place for trying out ideas, making a mess & not criticising myself for that mess.  This page was an attempt to not overthink.

It had left over paint on it initially, I made the paint quite watery & let it drip down the page.  Then I added the stencilling with Wendy Vecchi Orange Blossom & Watering Can Archival inks.  That’s a Prima stencil on the top left & a Donna Downey stencil on the lower right.

I applied grunge paste through another stencil & when it was dry swiped over the top with Picked Raspberry distress ink.  The Stampendous owl & Dylusions head were sitting on my desk so I added them too. Nothing special about this page, but it will do.

Until next time, love & light.

PaperArtsy Challenge Inspired by Liz Borer

Published September 29, 2013 by isisimaginings

Morning, happy Sunday.  I’m cutting it very fine to take part in the PA challenge this week & honestly, I’m not sure I should, seeing as I haven’t really got a finished project, but WTH.

The guest designer this week is Liz Borer & if you read Craft Stamper magazine you will have seen her beautiful & incredibly creative work.  Her projects for PA this week are here….

I started by making a pile of shrink plastic buttons, using the following PA stamps:

Eclectica Lin Brown 4

JoFY Collection 09

Hot Pick Xtra 02

And that was how they stayed for most of the week, because I couldn’t think of what else to do.  Then last night I started on a background, which was going swimmingly, until I made a stupid mistake & ruined it.

So, this morning I took the tag that I’d used last night to wipe up leftover paint, (Tinned Peas, Spanish Mulberry, Caramel frescos), added some stamping (ID03) with Spanish Mulberry & black Archival & stuck the buttons to it.  I will now put this aside until I can think of what else to do with it.

Thanks for visiting.  Until next time,

Hello, happy Friday.  I’ve just finished my take on Tim’s September tag so I thought I’d better post it here immediately before I get distracted by something else.  You will find Tim’s fantastic tag here.

Here’s my completed background.  I used stencils from The Crafter’s Workshop, Dylusions & the tree is one of the Wendy Vecchi stencils I won last month.

I wanted an autumnal feel to the tag, so I used Spiced Marmalade, Barn Door, Brushed Corduroy & Tarnished Brass distress stains, as well as Rusty Hinge, Walnut Stain, Picked Raspberry, Frayed Burlap & Black Soot distress inks.

Additional stencilling with a Dylusions stencil & the little birds are cut from a Memory Box die.  I also brushed a little Spanish Topaz treasure gold around the edge of the tag.

The finished tag.  The stamped bird is a Martha Stewart stamp.

Thanks for looking, until next time,

PaperArtsy Challenge Inspired by Joanne Wardle

Published September 22, 2013 by isisimaginings

Morning, happy Sunday & happy Autumn Equinox.  Yep, it’s the first day of Autumn, season of mists & mellow fruitfulness.  From the train yesterday, I saw a tree that was a blaze of colour, would have loved a photo of it.  Anyway, on to other matters.

It was time for a new guest designer on the PaperArtsy blog this week;  Joanne Wardle is the queen of Clean and Simple & her cards/projects are always beautifully composed.  As someone who can’t seem to stop throwing everything but the kitchen sink at her projects, I definitely envy Joanne.

I was determined to have a go this week, but I don’t have any of PA’s Halloween stamps, so I used what I had.

The ‘Create’ image is possibly the very first PA stamp I ever bought.  The image on the right is from Ink & The Dog Eclectic 6 & the quote is from the Sara Naumann set, Eclectica SN02.

The little bird & quote are from JoFY collection 15 & the heart & quote from Squiggly Ink Love & Kisses 1.

I coloured the images with watercolour pencils & used London Bus, Inky Pool & Smoked Paprika frescos.

I spent yesterday in London, visiting the Royal Academy in Piccadilly in the morning, where I saw all four of their current exhibitions; Australia, Mexico; A Revolution in Art, Richard Rogers RA – Inside Out & Sir Hugh Casson PRA – Making Friends.  All four were excellent.  Then I spent the afternoon at the Big Stamping & Scrapbooking Show at Alexandra Palace.  Here’s what I bought.  I had to keep to a strict budget, but couldn’t resist four of the new fresco colours & I had been wanting the reverse chicken wire stencil for ages.

It was great to see everyone at the PA stand, where Leandra & Lin spent the day demoing up a storm.  I didn’t take a single photo, but if you want a flavour of what the day was like, visit Helen’s blog post HERE.

Thanks for visiting, until next time,

Rhapsody in Blue for Dragons Dream

Published September 16, 2013 by isisimaginings

Evening, I hope everyone’s well.  I’ve been in a major slump this past week, more projects have ended up in the bin than have ben finished.  I’ve had this idea for the current Dragons Dream TIO challenge in my head for over a week & I was determined to complete it, even though I messed it up too.

*Edited to add:  The link to the Dragons Dream website doesn’t seem to be working, here’s the direct link;

The gorgeous Gabrielle chose the theme this week  & it is ‘Music, Tissue paper/tape & Blue’, with at least one stamp & on a tag..  George Gershwin’s ‘Rhapsody in Blue’ is one of most favourite pieces of music, so I knew immediately that I would have to include it somehow.

I printed part of the sheet music onto tissue paper & glued it to the tag, not realising until after that I’d forgotten to crumple it as I laid it down.  In all honesty, I couldn’t be bothered redoing it, so I left it.  I painted silver acrylic paint & Ice Blue fresco on top.

Dragons Dream Sept 16

I mixed grunge paste with Inky Pool fresco paint & applied it though the CWS cityscape stencil.  Than I added the die cuts & tissue tape.  I turned the TH Umbrella Man in to a musical conductor with Kanban stamps & silver heat embossing & used TH chit chat stickers for the quote.

And that’s it.  Not my finest hour, but at least I finished it. Thanks for visiting, it means a lot.  Until next time,

Love & light.

JoFY Workshop at The Artistic Stamper

Published September 9, 2013 by isisimaginings

Hello, hope everyone had a great weekend.  Hasn’t the weather changed dramatically today??  It’s rather chilly all of a sudden.

I intended posting this yesterday, but the day got away from me.  This is the canvas I made at Jo Firth-Young’s class at The Artistic Stamper on Saturday.

It was a lovely day, playing with Fresco paints & Jo’s gorgeous stamp collections & I’m very happy with my canvas.  Huge thanks to Jo for her excellent teaching & to Jennie & Mal for their hospitality.

By the way, if you’re not familiar with Jo’s beautiful creations for PaperArtsy, take a look at this blog post.  And this post announces the release of her new Christmas stamps.  They’re GORGEOUS.

Until next time,

Love & light.

Searching For My Inner Frida

Published September 7, 2013 by isisimaginings

Good morning, happy Saturday.  Very early for me to be writing a blog post, but I’ve been up since 3am & thought I’d work on the other side of the journal page I showed you on Thursday.

As it’s the same colour I wanted to continue with a similar theme.  I first mopped up some split Dylusions Bubblegum ink & then stencilled with Wendy Vecchi’s Red Geranium & Orange Blossom Archival inks.

Stamping with Dylusions stamps & Cornflower Blue Archival.

And then I forgot to take more photos of the background, but I added more stamping in black & then added the main images, painting Curious Corrin with Dylusions.  The wings are from PaperArtsy’s Eclectic 6 stamp set.

That’s all for now, I’m going to get ready for my day at The Artistic Stamper in Faversham, attending a workshop given by the fabulous Jo Firth-Young.  Until next time,

Love & light

Inside My Own Head

Published September 5, 2013 by isisimaginings

Happy Thursday blog visitors.  Firstly, I must say an enormous thank you for all the very generous comments on my #3UP PaperArtsy project, it means so much to me that you would all take the time to visit & comment.  It’s been a great week on the PA blog & if you haven’t seen the wonderful projects created by crafters from around the world, please take some time to peruse each evening’s posts.

Last week I was delighted to discover that I’d won a set of the Lin Brown PA stamps on Carol Quance’s blog.  They arrived today, along with a gorgeous fabric tag that Carol made during her recent week as a PA guest designer.

Thank you very much Carol & thanks too to Leandra for donating then for the giveaway.  I’ve watched Lin demo these stamps & I’m hoping to get time to play over the weekend.

I’ve been using my journal to mop up paint & tonight I spent a little time actually finishing a page.  This is how it looked at the start.

I stencilled the small skull (Andy Skinner Skulduggery stencil) with Snowflake fresco paint & the roman letters stencil with Watering Can Archival ink, (one of Wendy Vecchi’s six new colours for Ranger).

I added more stencilling & stamped the Dylusions Curious Corrin eyes stamp with WV Red Geranium Archival.

More stamping, (‘Inside My Own Head’ from  PA Ink & The Dog Eclectic 6 set) with second generation black Archival & I stencilled the large skull with black Archival also.

The finished page.  I stamped the PA Eclectic 6 image with WV Green Fern Archival & blended a little Old Paper distress ink on the background, making sure to leave the face white.  The quote is from Chocolate Baroque’s Artistic Affirmations stamp set.

I’ll do something with the other side over the weekend.  Until the next time,

Love & light.
