12 Tags of 2014 June

Published June 29, 2014 by isisimaginings

Good morning, happy Sunday. Yet again, I’m almost too late with my canvas board version of Tim’s tag. I actually made it a few weeks ago & hoped I’d have time to make another, better version, but I don’t think I will now.  You can see Tim’s gorgeous tag & all the details on how he created it HERE.

I decided to use the TCW Cell Theory stencil for my background, which in retrospect was a mistake. There’s very little definition & what there was I ended up covering.  But I quite liked the result so I carried on………….

I tried various images but went ahead with the mini versions of Tim’s butterflies & I also used his Torn Notebook die & Remnant Rubs. I seem to have run out of seam binding, so I coloured some organza ribbon with distress inks instead…………..

Thanks goes once again to Tim for the inspiration & to you for looking.

See you next time.

12 Tags of 2014 – May

Published May 31, 2014 by isisimaginings

Morning all, nothing like leaving it to – almost – the very last minute. Here’s my take on Tim’s May tag, which you can see here. Tim challenged us to use those metal embellishments that we’ve been saving for that ‘special occasion’. I love the simplicity of his tag, with every element perfectly balanced. Not sure I’ve achieved that balance, but I like what I’ve done.

I used a canvas board & kept the background simple, using Fresco paints – Vintage Lace, Mocha Mousse, Chocolate Pudding, French Roast, Little Black Dress. I finished the background with splatters of Tarnished Brass distress stain mixed with water.

The embellishments are on pieces of Thorndon Hall paper from PaperArtsy, with a TH key, frame, vial label & rub on.  Each piece has  significance for me & the  word ‘create’ is a Chocolate Baroque stamp.

Thanks once again to Tim for the inspiration. Nice to know that we’ve only got to wait ‘til tomorrow now for your June tag. Smile

Thanks for looking, I’m hoping I’ll get time to make something either today or tomorrow for this week’s PaperArtsy challenge………….

12 Tags of 2014 – April

Published April 28, 2014 by isisimaginings

Hello, I hope you all had a great weekend. Once again, a huge thank you for the kind comments on my last blog post.

Amidst all the boring stuff I had to do yesterday, (housework – yeuch), I managed to finish my tag, or rather my canvas board, for Tim Holtz’ April tag challenge. Tim’s tag is so beautiful, you can see it in this post, I followed his method & used his products where possible. (I do, finally have his wonderful Trellis Frameworks die & I love it a lot). Here’s my finished board.

I don’t have any distress paints, so I used my trusty Frescos & they did indeed work as per Tim’s technique. I used TH tissue tape on the board, securing it with matte gel medium. I did have a big disappointment at this stage; almost an entire roll of TH Symphony tissue tape went in the bin after I finally gave up trying to prise it apart – and I have been trying ever since I got it. Insert sad face here. Anyway, I used Sage Fresco over the tissue tape & painted the trellis die cuts with Tinned Peas, Hey Pesto & Hyde Park.

I have not used the Tattered Pine Cone die nearly enough, so I was determined to use it on this project. I would be embarrassed to admit how many attempts it took me to get these three looking even halfway decent – just don’t examine them too closely. I used my precious stash of PaperArtsy’s discontinued Thorndon Hall papers for them, I only have two full sheets left now. (That could be a message from the universe telling me I *need* to buy PA’s new Chatsworth papers, they’re so beautiful).

I used Squeezed Lemonade, Milled Lavender & Dusty Concord distress inks to colour the roses & used the same inks on the seam binding. For the inserts in the trellis I used silver mirri card, dry embossed kraft card & more Thorndon Hall paper. To finish, I stamped the TH flying birds stamp with black Archival in the top right hand corner.

Thanks once again to Tim for his creativity & inspiration, I can’t wait to see what he has in store for his May tag.

I’ll be back soon, hopefully.

12 Tags of 2014 March

Published March 30, 2014 by isisimaginings

Hello, thank you very much to everyone for the kind comments & tweets on my blog post last night, I was still blushing this morning.

Keren Baker asked me last night how long it takes me to make a background & the answer is not long at all, if I know what I’m doing. Which is rare. Usually, there’s lots of thinking & staring & wondering how on earth to start. I’m not one of those talented crafters who can move seamlessly from one idea to the next. My ideas are dragged out, kicking & screaming, from the depths of my brain.

I know I’ve joked about it before, but one of my biggest difficulties is choosing colours & really, it’s not funny, to me at least. I cannot put colours together & I cannot tell if a colour combination works or not, so trying to get that right takes ages. I decided to join Pinterest simply so that I could have a place where I put pictures of colour combinations & I get a daily email from http://designseeds.com, which I pin to my Colour Palettes board. Then of course, I have to decide which of the colours I have matches most closely with the pictures. All of which goes to explain why I’m lucky if I manage to do a blog post more than once a week.

Cutting it fine yet again, I have managed to finish my take on Tim’s beautiful, Spring-like March tag, which you can see here. As usual, I had to come up with something using what I have in my stash, but I followed Tim’s process as closely as I could.  I’m still using canvas boards & this time I have also used a tag.

I gave the board a quick coat of gesso, then applied some Cheesecake Fresco with a baby wipe. I cut a few centimetres off the bottom of the tag so that it would look better on the board. All the stamping was done using Tim’s Visual Artistry stamps & Wendy Vecchi’s Archival inks – Potting Soil, Watering Can, Cornflower Blue & Orange Blossom. The second generation stamping worked quite well on the board I thought. And I discovered I could smudge the ink with a baby wipe if I was careful not to overdo it.

I die cut the feather & applied the inks through the negative & added some pencil lines to the feather on the tag. The words are 7 Gypsies stamps. I blended Tattered Rose, Shabby Shutters & Squeezed Lemonade distress inks very lightly over the top.

I scribbled some Whispers pens onto the craft sheet & used a waterbrush to colour the foliage below the bird.

Tim used his very cool distress marker spritzer through a stencil on his tags & I had to improvise to get this effect. I added tiny amounts of Pea Coat Fresco paint to water in a mister bottle & spraying onto scrap card to check the colour until it was what  I wanted. Then I sprayed through a TCW stencil. I wanted quite a subtle look to the board, but I couldn’t resist a spritz of Biscotti Perfect Pearls mist at this stage.

A close up to show the stencilled layer.

The finished board. I edged the tag with Walnut Stain Distress ink & the board with Potting Soil Archival & French Roast Fresco. There’s a little bit of washi tape on the board & I used paper string through the word band on the tag & added the eyelets for decoration. I stuck a piece of kraft card to the back of the tag to strengthen it. The tag had curled slightly as I was working on it, so I left it like that, using double foam pads at the top & bottom only.

That’s it, I hope you like it. Thank you to Tim for his genius & inspiration. See you next time.

12 Tags of 2014 February

Published February 20, 2014 by isisimaginings

Good evening, hope everyone’s had a lovely Thursday, I’ve spent most of the day catching up & leaving comments on all the blog posts I’d missed since last Saturday.

I made my take on Tim’s tag last week, but I didn’t get time to blog about it, so tonight’s the night. You can see Tim’s gorgeous Valentine themed tag HERE & below is mine. I had virtually nothing of what Tim used & I didn’t want to make a Valentine tag, but I did want to use the PaperArtsy  tall heart die.

As I said for my January take, I’m using canvas boards as my substrates this year & I painted this one with Irish Cream Fresco paint, then added Shabby Shutters distress stain. After which I promptly forgot to take photos.

I used Wendy Vecchi’s Watering Can & Cornflower Archival inks through the CWS Harlequin stencil & used Clear embossing powder over the top. I used Broken China distress glitter on the heart & edged it with Walnut Stain distress ink. The border was cut from black card with a Spellbinders die & covered with silver Treasure Gold, I left it a bit patchy in places.

When I stamped the TH quote onto the black card with Versamark I didn’t use an anti-static pad first, so there are flecks of white EP here & there, which is my nod to the chalkboard effect on Tim’s tag. I used a Permapaque white marker pen for the border. When I removed the tiny inserts from the black card after die cutting it I liked the shaped ones & decided to add them to the top of the board.

That’s it. Thanks for looking & thank you once again to Tim for the inspiration. See you next time.

12 1 2014 300

Published January 31, 2014 by isisimaginings

Hello, here’s my ‘tag’ for Tim’s January tag. I made it weeks ago, but knew my 300th blog post was coming up so I held it over until now. Tim started the new year in spectacular style with his tag & I wanted mine to be the same, except that I decided to use a canvas board as the base.

I painted the board with Sage & Irish Cream fresco paints, then added Brushed Corduroy distress stain.

The board is wider that a tag so I used a second stencil to fill in gaps.

I had been to The Artistic Stamper earlier in the month & the TH pocket watch die was on sale, so I had to have it. I don’t have any of the TH movers & shapers dies, but this Spellbinders die was a perfect fit.

And here’s the finished board. I added some stamping with a PaprArtsy mini script stamp. The quote on the journal ticket is from ‘A Tale for the Time Bring’ by Ruth Ozeki – a book I highly recommend.

In other news, I apparently have the ‘flu. Yesterday I thought it was just a cold, but I was so ill today (reminded me of how I felt after chemotherapy sessions) that I rang my GP’s advice line & was told that yes, it sounds very much like the ‘flu. Great. I hope it clears up quickly.

Thanks for looking & to Tim for the inspiration. See you next time.

Funkie Junkie 12 Tags of Christmas The Finale

Published January 3, 2014 by isisimaginings

Here it is, the second bonus tag in the Funkie Junkie 12 Tags of Christmas 2013 Challenge. You can see Linda’s beautiful tag HERE & I liked it so much I copied it, using my own stash & adding a few things. I didn’t think I had any jumbo tags, but a search uncovered a pack, much to my delight.

I stamped two snowflakes & heat embossed them with silver SP, then punched out two circles. To cover the hole in the tag I punched two white circles & die cut the snowflake. The second circle is underneath the flap, hiding the legs of the jewelled brad.

I used a piece of vellum, die cutting it with the TH Distressed Doily die. I applied Brushed Pewter distress stain to it & dried it with the heat tool, it became much firmer & buckled slightly, which I was pleased with. I put Grunge Paste through an Imagination Crafts stencil.

The inside, as in Linda’s description, with the addition of a die cut piece for the message.

And that is it.

The FJ challenge was sponsored by The Funkie Junkie Boutique & you can find all the information HERE.

Many thanks to Linda for fourteen weeks of beautiful projects & incredible inspiration. I’m so pleased I took part & I’m already looking forward to the 2014 Christmas challenge.

Funkie Junkie 12 Tags of Christmas First Bonus Card

Published December 30, 2013 by isisimaginings

Happy Monday blog visitors, I hope you had a great weekend, not too long now to 2014.

Over on the Funkie Junkie blog, Linda has very kindly extended her 12 Tags of Christmas challenge for two weeks, with the bonus tags having ‘thank you’ as their theme. You can see her tag HERE & I was inspired by all of it, especially the silver stars & the stencilling.  Linda took the inspiration for her tag from  the Tim Holtz December tag, so again, I used vellum instead of CFA & Frosted Film.  I used the TH Mini Tattered Leaves die & the bird on a branch is a Marianne Creatables die.

FJ Wk 13 13

I applied embossing ink through a Crafter’s Workshop stars stencil & heat set with silver EP directly on the card blank, then covered with Weathered Wood distress ink. Green distress inks through an Imagination Crafts stencils for the foliage, with Platinum stickles added here & there.

Thank you for visiting, see you next time.

12 Tags of 2013 December

Published December 29, 2013 by isisimaginings

Another year of Tim’s wonderful tags is at an end & I want to thank him for all his hard work & inspiration throughout the year. Only a few more days before we find out if he’s going to continue in 2014.

Tim’s December tag is HERE & as I need a card for a January birthday, that’s what I made.

TH 12 Tags 13 Dec

I still don’t have CFA or Frosted Film, so I used vellum, cutting it with the TH Tattered Pine Cone die &  colouring it Wendy Vecchi’s Red geranium & Fern Archival inks. I used Tim’s Stars layering stencil on the background with distress inks. The greeting was stamped with black Archival & heat embossed with clear sparkle EP. I decided the colours were a little too muted, so I added the red ribbon, a few gold confetti stars & Platinum stickles to the brads in the centre of the flowers.

Thank you for looking, see you next time.

Funkie Junkie 12 Tags of Christmas Week Twelve

Published December 21, 2013 by isisimaginings

Drum roll please, here is card number 12. Linda’s stunning tag is in this post & I was inspired by every detail of it. I used my TH stars stencil with gold texture paste & embossing powder as Linda did – fab texture when you heat the powder on the wet paste!

I applied Antique Linen distress ink Platinum stickles around the edges. I stamped the bauble on separate white card, heat set with gold EP & cut it out. I added some gold glitter mesh to the back & made a bow, which is under the white bow. The final addition was the gold diamond mesh & the quote.

Funkie Junkie Wk 12

And that’s it, twelve Christmas cards completed, the end of the challenge. But wait, no it isn’t. Linda has very kindly extended the challenge to January 8 & there will be extra cards to make in the meantime (thank you cards, not Christmas cards – hurrah!).  All the relevant information, rules, requirement, etc. is in the post for the twelfth tag . Everyone who completes the challenge gets a discount to spend in the Funkie Junkie Boutique, which is sponsoring the challenge.

I still have some other Christmas cards to share, so I shall be back tomorrow. (I’ve just remembered I still have to make my tag for the Tim Holtz 12 Tags of 2013 – eek!)

Bye for now.
