Online Stencilled Class Day 4

Published February 2, 2014 by isisimaginings

Day 4 was the final day & it was about making your own templates, using a Gelli plate & dry embossing.

This is the card I made using the CWS Harlequin stencil to dry emboss. This was something I’d always wanted to try, but as someone who has a history of breaking cutting plates, I was wary.  Julie’s instructions were very clear however & I succeeded first time.

A very simple stencil made with Spellbinders circle dies.

The Gelli plate tutorial had me pondering for quite a while. I don’t have one, so wondered how I could achieve a similar-ish effect. I tried a few things, none of which worked, before I thought of the rubber shims I used for the dry embossing above.

I used the TH Eye Chart stencil first, but got virtually no paint on the paper. When I removed the stencil there was a very clear impression in the paint on the shim, so I put the paper back down & got a good negative impression. I added more paint (Ice Blue Fresco) & put down the TH Clockwork stencil & brayered over the top before removing it & putting down the card. Again a good negative impression, which did cover up a lot of the first layer, but I didn’t mind. I also didn’t mind that some of the paper stuck to the shim as I removed it, it just added more texture. The final layer was Limelight Fresco through the TH Stripes stencil.

The finished card.

I have really enjoyed making these cards, thanks to everyone at Online Card Classes for the inspiration & the excellent quality of the lessons. And once again, much thanks to my friend Sarita, for the gift of a place on the class.

See you next time.

Online Stencilled Day 3

Published February 1, 2014 by isisimaginings

Happy Saturday everyone. I’m still feeling horrible so I’ll try to keep this short. Day 3 was all about texture pastes.

This first card is Grunge Paste mixed with French Roast Fresco paint. The snowflake is a Joy Craft die & the white leaf is from the new TH Foliage die, a selection of which my very kind Twitter friend, Sam, sent me. Thank you Sam!

Clear texture paste through an Imagination Crafts stencil & stamps from Eclectica Darcy 01 by Darcy Wilkinson for PaperArtsy.

Clear texture paste as a resist through an Imagination Crafts stencil with Peacock Feathers distress inks.

A psychedelic Umbrella Man! I put GP through the negative image & covered it with various embossing powders.

Thanks for looking, I’ll be back tomorrow with the final day’s cards.

Online Stencilled Class Day Two

Published January 29, 2014 by isisimaginings

Happy Wednesday crafters! Day Two of Stencilled was all about Template Techniques. On my first card I used the Jo Firth-Young designed freebie stamp from one of last year’s issues of Craft Stamper magazine, splatter stencils from the Crafter’s Workshop & The Artistic Stamper, distress inks – Mowed Lawn, Festive Berries, Spiced Marmalade & Scattered Straw – and Plum Archival ink.

The second technique was watercolour painting. Crafters’ Workshop stencil again & a Sugar Nellie image.

Colouring pencils on this card, which also marks the first time I’ve ever used a border punch.

Making one part of a stencil the focal point. I used a gold pen & I already had the die cut frame on my desk. I added Patina stickles to it.

Thanks for looking, see you next time.

Online Stencilled Class Day 1

Published January 28, 2014 by isisimaginings

Hello, I hope everyone’s had a good Tuesday, thanks for the kind comments on my blog posts last night. Much to my delight, my friend Sarita in California gifted me a place on Stencilled, the new class from for Christmas. Class finally began last Friday & we’ve had four days of fantastic video tutorials. I’m two days behind, but I’ll be making more cards over the next few days & at the weekend too, no doubt. Here are my cards from Day One; Inking & Misting.

I had a lovely time making the first six cards but when I came to the final lesson from Day One I got stuck.  The lesson was all about layering stencils & my first effort is so atrocious that I am NOT exposing it to public ridicule. My second attempt is MUCH better. Well, I think it is.

I started with layering the Crafters’ Workshop reverse honeycomb stencil over the Blazonry stencil & applied Shaded Lilac DI. I got a very uneven result, which I wanted. I removed the honeycomb stencil & applied Weathered Wood DI through the Blazonry stencil. Then I sat & pondered until I thought of this flower stencil by Wendy Vecchi. I’m not exaggerating when I say that the clouds parted & the angels sang (well, maybe a little….) as it all suddenly became clear & I knew what I was going to do…….

I coloured the flower with Wendy’s Cornflower Blue & Fern Green Archival inks, applied Scattered Straw DI through the CWS Tile Texture stencil & used the cap of my spritzer bottle with Fired Brick DI to make the circles. I added the greeting (Inkadinkado, I think) & voila, finished! I like this card A LOT & I thoroughly enjoyed the first day of class.

Thanks for looking, I’ll be back tomorrow night with my cards for Day Two.
